One of the most popular players in Australian cricket has reached another milestone in his career in the lead up to next year’s World Cup.

Cricket: After giving Stuart Broad a guard of honour ahead of his final Test innings, Steve Smith and Mitch Marsh tried to convince Jimmy Anderson to walk through it as well.

It’s understood Marsh’s appointment at this stage may be only for the upcoming limited overs tour of South Africa, as selectors look to take time to assess all the options available to them beyond this year’s ODI World Cup.

Marsh was one of the most impressive players for Australia during the recent Ashes, even though he only played three Tests and the leadership appointment is another nod to his growing importance in the national set-up.
