Dallas Mavericks sign coach Jason Kidd to multiyear extension

Jason Kidd has signed a multiyear contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced Monday.

The deal comes just days after ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that Kidd’s name had been mentioned as a potential candidate for Los Angeles Lakers head coach, a job that came open when the team fired Darvin Ham.

Kidd, 51, is coming off his third season as Mavericks coach — a season in which he led the team to the Southwest Division title. In two of his three seasons, he has coached the team to 50-plus wins (52 in 2021-22 and 50 in 2023-24) and playoff series wins. Kidd led the Mavs to the Western Conference finals in 2022.
