One of Australia’s biggest names in tennis, Mark Philippoussis, has fallen foul of tennis’ integrity agency and has been fined $10,000 for voicing an ad for a betting company.
Philippoussis, 46, has also been given a suspended four month ban from the game, which comes into play if there are any further transgressions.
The ad starts with a cartoon figure of Philippoussis saying: “Hi I am Mark Philippoussis and I am here to tell you about a bloke who may gone down as the greatest of all time.”
He then goes on to talk about Novak Djokovic, back in Australia after last year’s deportation drama.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said it had issued a sanction to Philippoussis for breaching tennis’ betting sponsorship rules.
