Papua New Guinea to strengthen NRL bid with corporate dinner and new junior youth academy

Efforts to strengthen Papua New Guinea’s bid to join Australia’s top rugby league competition, the NRL, will commence in the coming week.

A corporate dinner is scheduled in the coming days to drum up commercial interest.

Meanwhile, the country’s first-ever junior youth academy will be unveiled on Monday.

Despite partnership offers from Australia, CEO of the PNG NRL bid Andrew Hill said the team would be mostly PNG owned and operated.

However, he didn’t rule out partnering with an external club if need be.

“If the only option for the NRL to come to PNG was to work with other partners, we would be in a position to look at that, he said,” he said.

“But at the moment our focus is on providing this opportunity for PNG to have their own team in the NRL.”
