More than three million Aussies watch on as Matildas outrate AFL & NRL deciders

The Matildas are already officially bigger than the AFL and NRL Grand Finals with plenty of improvement to come, as Channel 7 reveals monster TV ratings for the win over Denmark.

As Australia saluted 2-0 over the Danes at Stadium Australia on Monday night, 3.565 million tuned in via Channel 7.

It’s the biggest Australian television audience of 2023.

The 2022 AFL Grand Final – a one-sided blitz by Geelong – attracted an average of 3.06 million viewers, also on Channel 7. The NRL decider saw 2.8 million tune in on Channel Nine.

Tony Gustavsson’s side’s performance was the most watched Australian television event since Ash Barty claimed the 2022 Australian Open as an average of 3.6 million watched on.

2.42 million viewers watched via Channel 7 when the Matildas knocked off Canada to advance to the Round of 16, making Monday’s figure a staggering 30 per cent increase just seven days later.
