Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary finally reveal extent of NRL grand final injuries

It’s the hidden cost behind Penrith’s remarkable NRL three-peat.

Halves teammates Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary have taken to social media to show the physical sacrifices they made in the Panthers’ quest for history.

Luai on Monday underwent surgery to repair the left shoulder he dislocated in the Panthers’ run to the finals, in which he made a remarkable return to the field after just four weeks.

The star five-eighth played in the Panthers’ preliminary final win over Melbourne and took his place in the grand final, but only lasted 52 minutes before the injury gave way.

Physiotherapist Brien Seeney, known as NRL Physio on social media platform X – formerly Twitter – revealed Luai could be back for the start of the 2024 season.


“Shoulder reconstruction surgery done for Jarome Luai – 5 months til Round 1 2024 & a general recovery range of 3-5 months. Good chance he is available to kick off next season,” Seeney posted.
