Nathan Lyon claims Ashes result ‘would have been 4-0 to Australia’ if not for calf injury, video

Test spinner Nathan Lyon is adamant Australia would have won last year’s Ashes series if not for the untimely injury that prematurely ended his tour of England.

On day two of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, the veteran off-spinner hobbled off the field with a calf injury, missing the remainder of the marquee series.

Australia won the Lord’s Test to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match campaign, but the series ended as a 2-2 stalemate after England emerged victorious at Headingley and The Oval. Had rain not interrupted the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Ben Stokes’ men almost certainly would have regained the coveted urn.

During an interview with BBC Sport, Lyon declared that he believes Australia would have won the series 4-0 if he had been available for the final three Tests.
