Sad observations have been made just a few kilometres from where the biggest sporting event on Australia’s calendar since the Olympics will unfold.
The Matildas have unveiled their official squad ahead of the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup which kicks off on Thursday the 20th of July. Matildas Head Coach Tony Gustavsson had a tough job to take a 29-player preliminary team down to 23 player squad that will represent Australia.
In Sydney’s CBD, not far from where the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will commence Thursday evening, hardly any traces of the major global event could be detected on Wednesday, just hours ahead of kick-off.
Those walking through the city would be none the wiser that in mere hours, thousands of fans would fill out Stadium Australia in the city’s Olympic Park to watch Australia’s Matildas take on the Republic of Ireland.
