World Cup winning halfback Nathan Cleary has been ruled out of the Pacific Championship after succumbing to a knee injury.
Cleary will be replaced by Nicho Hynes who could debut for the Kangaroos throughout the series with Daly Cherry-Evans likely to start.
The halfback was believed to have suffered the injury during the grand final after a tackle from Payne Haas.

The diagnosis for Cleary’s knee is reportedly an injured medial collateral ligament (MCL) with Haas fined $1000 post-game by the match review committee.
Hynes featured off the bench for the Prime Minister’s XIII game against Papua New Guinea’s PM’s XIII.
