If Cameron Smith had his time over again he would have started his 2023 campaign earlier to “get the competitive juices” going before major season began after a flat effort at the Masters in April.
The one big adjustment Smith had to make after his move to LIV Golf was the longer-than-usual off-season, during which he truly turned off after winning five times in a massive 2022, including his stunning British Open triumph at St Andrews.
As he headed to Royal Liverpool to defend his crown this week, Smith conceded that extra break left a fog for longer than he expected, or hoped, and his 34th place finish at the Masters, after a run of three-straight top 10s at Augusta, opened his eyes as to what was needed.
