The AFL’s tackle crackdown has seen almost 30 players banned so far this season, but one suspension in particular has left Fox Footy’s David King feeling “sick”.
King said he was “uncomfortable” with the fact Bomber Zach Merrett is now ineligible for the Brownlow Medal for his actions in a tackle back in Round 5.
Merrett took Demons midfielder Tom Sparrow to ground in a heavy tackle that cost him the opportunity to play in the ANZAC Day blockbuster after failing in his bid at the AFL Tribunal.

“I’m uncomfortable with Zach Merrett being ineligible for the Brownlow Medal because of this tackle,” King said on AFL 360 on Wednesday night.
“I think we’ll make a change to it at the end of the year.
