Mitchell Duke and Harry Souttar bickered like an old couple as they couldn’t decide who truly scored the Socceroos’ opener in their 2-0 win over New Zealand.
The Aussies fired home in the 13th minute when Mitchell Duke thumped a half-volley into the net, but Harry Souttar then wheeled off in celebration claiming he had scored as Duke looked stunned.
Replays then showed the ball took a slightly change in trajectory, proving Duke’s strike took the slightest of deflections from the towering defender.
However, Duke was officially credited with the goal but it was then overturned towards the end of the half as it was given to Souttar.
But after the game, it was confirmed by match officials that it was indeed Duke who had scored first.
However, Souttar remained adamant it was he who got the opening goal and not his teammate, who “wasn’t very happy”.
