Former Socceroo Massimo Luongo’s transition back to England’s second-tier Championship is proving successful early doors with Ipswich Town.
The 30-year-old midfielder who has also played for Swindon Town, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday helped the Tractor Boys to their second victory of the season, a 2-0 win against Stoke City thanks to goals from Luke Woolfenden and Kayden Jackson.
Luongo, one of the stars of Australia’s 2015 Asian Cup triumph on home soil, was replace in added time with the win in the bag, while Scottish-born Australian U20 and U23 international defender Cameron Burgess played a full game.
Ipswich are on six points from two matches after their opening-day 2-1 win at Sunderland.
The news is not so good at Leicester City for current Socceroos centre-back Harry Souttar, again left out of the squad for the trip to Huddersfield Town.
