Equal prize money for men’s and women’s teams at World Cup events, Rachael Haynes

The International Cricket Council has announced that women will receive the same prize money as their male counterparts in future World Cup events.

Teams will now collect equal prize money for their equivalent finishing position at comparable ICC events, such as next year’s Men’s T20 World Cup in the Americas and Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

The Australian women’s team received $1.45 million for winning this year’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, while England’s men’s team was awarded $2.3 million for their corresponding triumph last summer.

In 2020, Cricket Australia topped up the prize money the national women’s team received after winning that year’s T20 World Cup, ensuring parity with the men’s equivalent earnings.
