Australia will be sweating on the fitness of Mitchell Starc after the bowler sustained an apparent shoulder injury late on day two of the Old Trafford Test.
In the 65th over of England’s first innings in Manchester, Starc dived to prevent a boundary while fielding at mid-on, but landed awkwardly on his left shoulder.
The 33-year-old was in immediate discomfort, grimacing as team medics sprinted off the field. After a quick assessment, he gingerly walked off the field.
Starc returned to the action a few minutes later, but after retrieving the ball from long-off in the 67th over, it became apparent he couldn’t throw. He immediately trudged back towards the sheds, replaced in the field by substitute fielder Marcus Harris.
