Orlando Magic Sign Free Agent Miye Oni

The Orlando Magic have signed free agent guard/forward Miye Oni, according to an announcement made by President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, as per team policy.

Miye Oni is a 6’5″ and 205-pound player born on August 4, 1997. He played in 12 games last season (2022-23) with the London Lions of the British Basketball League. During his time with the Lions, Oni averaged 7.9 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 3.7 assists per game in 22.3 minutes per game. The Lions made history by becoming the first British club to secure a spot in the EuroCup Playoffs during their inaugural season in the EuroCup.

Oni was originally selected in the second round with the 58th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. He has played in a total of 80 NBA regular season games with the Utah Jazz, where he spent his entire career before joining the Magic. Oni has started in one game and has averaged 1.8 points per game and 1.4 rebounds per game in 8.4 minutes per game. He has also competed in 10 NBA playoff games, averaging 0.7 points per game in 5.5 minutes per game.

Prior to his professional career, Oni played college basketball for Yale University. He appeared in a total of 87 games over the course of three seasons from 2016 to 2019.

The signing of Oni adds depth to the Orlando Magic’s roster, providing them with a versatile guard/forward who can contribute both offensively and defensively. The team’s President of Basketball Operations, Jeff Weltman, expressed excitement about Oni joining the Magic and believes he will be a valuable asset to the team.

Overall, the signing of Miye Oni by the Orlando Magic showcases the team’s commitment to enhancing their roster and building a competitive team. Oni’s previous experience in the NBA and international play, along with his collegiate success, make him a promising addition to the Magic’s lineup. As the team looks towards the upcoming season, they aim to utilize Oni’s skills and contribute to their overall success.
