ESPN predicts the Phoenix Suns will finish second in the Western Conference to the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets with a 51-31 record.
The Nuggets eliminated the Suns in last season’s conference semifinals, winning the Game 6 clincher by 25 points after taking an 81-51 halftime lead at Footprint Center. Head coach Monty Williams was fired two days after the embarrassing home loss and Frank Vogel was hired to replace him.
The Suns later acquired three-time All-Star Bradley Beal in a trade that sent Chris Paul to Washington. Paul eventually landed in Golden State as the Warriors dealt Jordan Poole to the Wizards.
The Suns also will have Kevin Durant to start a training camp for the first time. They acquired the two-time finals MVP right before the Feb. 9 trade deadline that sent Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson to Brooklyn.
