Australian tennis talent Thanasi Kokkinakis has bravely opened up on his experience with depression, revealing he was in a ‘real dark place’ and the ‘mental pain is way, way worse’ than the years of physical injuries he struggled with.
Kokkinakis was ranked as high as 69th in the world in 2015 and has also notched a victory over former world number one Roger Federer.

But the last five years saw the gifted 24-year-old slip to outside the top 200 in the world, beset by problems across almost his entire body – knees and elbows, shoulders and pectoral muscles, his back and his groin, and even missing last year’s Australian Open through glandular fever.
This year, he returned to the Australian Open and secured his first singles…
