Novak Djokovic told he may never ‘be world No 1 again’ as he awaits Australian Open fate | Tennis | Sport

Novak Djokovic has been told that he may never return to world No 1 in a shock prediction made by Alexander Zverev’s brother Mischa. The former world No 25 made the bold claim as Djokovic waits to learn whether he will be allowed to return to the Australian Open in January after being deported this year.

Djokovic recently made his return to the tour after being banned from the US Open. The 21-time Grand Slam champion missed the entire North America hard-court swing as a result of his unvaccinated status and was victorious in his comeback at last week’s Tel Aviv Open, lifting the trophy.

The 35-year-old is now attempting to make up for his lost time and ranking points by ending his season with tournaments in Astana, Paris-Bercy and likely the ATP Finals in Turin. He lost 1,200 points from last year’s US Open final when he was unable to return to the competition this year, as well…
