Football Australia is deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of a true legend of Australian football, Steve Maxwell, Socceroo Cap #339. 

A prolific forward and a revered figure in the football community, Maxwell’s legacy will forever be etched in the annals of our sport’s history. 

Maxwell first represented Australia at the age of 21, making his debut against Czechoslovakia on 6 August 1986 for the senior men’s national team. Maxwell would go on to make a total of four senior international appearances over a six-year span. 

Maxwell played with the likes of current senior men’s national team Head Coach Graham Arnold and fellow South Australian great John Kosmina in his debut.
