A dramatic, extra time goal from Charles M’Mombwa and a late strike from Michael Ruhs was enough to extend Macarthur FC’s fairytale run and end the Central Coast Mariners’ own fairytale in the process.
The A-League’s first elimination final of the season was packed with VAR controversy and a red card, but there were only two goals in it and they both went the way of newbies Macarthur as the match in Gosford ended 2-0.
There was no separating the two teams after 96 minutes of regulation time, but the Mariners had the man advantage in extra time after James Meredith was sent off in the 75th minute.
