Heath Streak ‘very much alive’ as Zimbabwean cricket teammate Henry Olonga walks back death claim

Zimbabwean cricket great Heath Streak is “very much alive”, according to the former teammate who announced his death only hours earlier.

Tributes flowed on Wednesday after Henry Olonga shared that Streak, who has been battling colon and liver cancer, had died aged 49.

But the post was deleted several hours later and replaced by a screenshot of a message purportedly from Streak.

Olonga wrote: “I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated.

“I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive folks.”

Zimbabwean media later quoted Streak’s mother and a family spokesperson confirming the former cricketer is alive, “fine, walking about and cracking jokes”.
