Adam Zampa needed to pass a matchday fitness test after dealing with debilitating back spasms before producing a man of the match winning performance to kickstart Australia’s World Cup campaign.
The leg-spinner took 4-47 as the Aussies beat Sri Lanka by five wickets on Monday night in Lucknow to get off the mark after consecutive defeats to start the tournament.
Having battled soreness in the lead-up to the tournament and underwhelming form across the first two matches, Zampa was then laid low across the weekend, leaving him in doubt to play on Monday.
