AFL Grand Final: Brendan Fevola jumps into Yarra River after heartbreaking loss in Fox Footy Longest Kick, Daniel Rich wins

Cult former Lion and Blue Brendan Fevola, who kicked over 600 goals in a career that bagged him two Coleman Medals, has had his heart broken by his former teammate.

Fevola was taking part in Fox Footy’s Longest Kick competition, which sees current and former players attempt to kick as far as they can across Melbourne’s Yarra River.

The 42-year-old flew up the leaderboard, launching a long bomb well over 60m to easily qualify for the kick-off against Daniel Rich, Adam Saad, Mason Redman and Isaac Smith.

It quickly became a two-horse race between the retiring Rich and Fevola, who won the Longest Kick in 2017.

Fevola let rip with a huge torpedo that flew 67.3 metres. But just as he thought he’d taken the lead from Rich, it was announced his kick fell an agonising 10cm short of Rich’s 67.4m leading distance with his biggest kick.
