Michigan PGA Professional Championship has ninth repeat winner in 102-year history

FLINT – Kyle Martin of Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods joined an elite group Wednesday by repeating as the winner of the Michigan PGA Professional Championship at Flint Golf Club.

Martin shot 7-under-par 65, the low round of the week, to finish with a 54-hole total of 14-under 202 and a four-shot victory over five-time champion Jeff Roth, the first-round leader.

Martin joins a list of repeat champions that includes Roth of Boyne Golf Academy, Benny Cook of Country Club of Lansing, eight-time champion Scott Hebert of Traverse City Country Club, John Barnum, Chick Harbert, Sam Byrd, Al Watrous and Walter Hagen.

“To get one was the first goal, now to have two, even better,” said the 39-year-old Martin, who took home $7,500 from te $57,000 purse.
