Australian Matt Jones blasted by PGA Tour boss after taking legal action

The PGA Tour has lashed Australian Open winner Matt Jones for trying to “free ride” on the benefits of a tour he ”walked away from” after he was named among 11 LIV Golf defectors who launched legal action in the US.

Jones is among the players, including Phil Mickelson, who were banned by the PGA tour after joining Greg Norman’s Saudi-backed breakaway and now want their suspensions lifted.

Three of those players, including two-time Australian Open champ Jones, are also asking for a temporary restraining order to allow them to play in the FedEx Cup playoffs, which are due to start next week, with LIV events done for 2022.

But in a searing response, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan declared they would “vigorously” defend their legal position and in a letter to all members asked them to speak out publicly against those who “turned their back” on the tour, including…
