On the Couch, Rising Star, race to best young player, Will Ashcroft, Mitch Owens, Harry Sheezel, Jye Amiss

This year’s Rising Star race remains “wide open” with a host of contenders for the best young player in 2023.

But Fox Footy’s Garry Lyon is concerned the current crop is being “undersold” after the brilliance of Collingwood’s 2022 winner Nick Daicos, and the subsequent expectations on our rookie players.

Lyon said the likes of Brisbane’s Will Ashcroft, St Kilda’s Mitch Owens, North Melbourne’s Harry Sheezel and Fremantle’s Jye Amiss were all proving tough competition.

“I think Will Ashcroft’s year has been undersold,” Lyon said On the Couch.

“He’s having a year that’s just off the charts for a first-year player.
