Liverpool handed fresh injury setback as Jurgen Klopp waits on winger fitness update

Ben Doak has provided Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp with another potential injury headache ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Doak was forced to withdraw from the Scotland under-21 squad for their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Malta on Tuesday evening having suffered a fitness setback.

The 17-year-old winger, who was being tipped to possibly feature in the squad for the Scotland senior team’s friendly against France on the same night, had been replaced shortly after the hour in the U21’s 3-1 win over Hungary on Friday having earned and scored a first-half penalty.

Liverpool are waiting to discover the nature and extent of the damage, but the uncertainty is another unwanted concern for Klopp as he grapples with availability issues for the weekend visit of Everton.
