Australian manager Alen Stajcic has heralded a ‘staggering, miraculous and unbelievable’ 1-0 victory for his Philippines side over World Cup co-hosts New Zealand.

Stajcic guided the Philippines to a debut World Cup appearance – men’s or women’s, and after losing to Switzerland in their first match, he masterminded a maiden tournament win on Tuesday night.

And the emotional Australian declared it “has to be one of the biggest wins in the history of sport in the country.”

After being unceremoniously axed as Matildas coach in 2019 after an internal cultural review, Stajcic took charge of the minnows in October 2021.
