Luke Shuey retirement press conference, surprise over offer to Eagles veteran to play on

Outgoing Eagles skipper Luke Shuey has revealed he turned down an offer from West Coast to play on next year, with recurring injuries ultimately leading to the star midfielder going out on his own terms.

Shuey on Tuesday morning revealed his decision to retire to teammates, joining premiership captain Shannon Hurn to depart the club at the end of the home and away season.

A dual best and fairest winner, Shuey has played 247 games and kicked 141 goals for the Eagles since being selected with Pick 18 in the 2008 draft. But injuries have restricted the 33-year-old to just 33 of a possible 64 games across the past three seasons.
