AFL Fans Association write to Gillon McLachlan with concerns over possible AFL twilight grand final in 2023; Christian Salem injury setback at Melbourne Demons; Why Essendon Bombers did not rush back Jake Stringer from injury

“A change to a twilight grand final would be going against the wishes of the fans which are the largest stakeholders in the game. On behalf of members and supporters of the 18 clubs, the AFLFA is advocating for a 2.30pm start time for the 2023 grand final.”

Speaking on Fox Footy’s AFL360 earlier this month, McLachlan, expected to leave the top role soon, agreed that the twilight preliminary final between Sydney and Collingwood at the SCG last season had provided the best presentation of the sport for the entire season.

He said a recommendation for this year’s grand final timeslot would be made in the “next few weeks”, adding: “I’ve taken it, this job, seriously. This is their [the fans’] game.
