Richmond’s shrewd trade for Tim Taranto was underscored last night when the midfield star took home the Jack Dyer Medal in his first season at Punt Rd.
The Tigers gave up picks No.12 and 19 for the former Greater Western Sydney midfielder in last year’s trade period. Those selections were used on Elijah Hewett (West Coast) and Max Gruzewski (GWS).
Taranto, 25, was awarded the maximum five best-and-fairest votes in a match on just three occasions – but in a testament to his consistency he received 52 of a possible 65 votes between rounds five and 18.
The former Sandringham Dragon became the first player to win the Jack Dyer Medal in their debut season after being recruited from a rival league club since Barry Rowlings in 1979.
