Jonny Bairstow’s wretched time behind the stumps took a turn when he hauled in a stunning catch to dismiss the dangerous Mitchell Marsh on day one of the Old Trafford Ashes Test.
The 33-year-old, who has been entrusted with the wicketkeeping duties in place of full-time gloveman Ben Foakes, has endured a tough series behind the stumps, with as many as five catches put down along with one missed stumping chance.
But Bairstow had a moment to savour after tea on the opening day in Manchester, holding onto a one-handed screamer to remove the set Marsh for 51.
