Cricketer Ian Botham named UK trade ambassador to Australia – POLITICO

LONDON — No. 10 Downing Street and the U.K.’s trade department hopes to woo Australians with cricket.

House of Lords member and Ashes-winning superstar, Ian “Beefy” Botham, is part of a new team of trade envoys assembled by U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Trade Secretary Liz Truss.

“Marvelous news Liz and what a fantastic appointment!” said Australian High Commissioner to the U.K. George Brandis in response to the news. “Australia looks forward to welcoming Lord Botham down under — and to working with him to strengthen the trading links between our two countries.”
