Former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell has called an end to his 45-year commentary career, retiring from a glittering career behind the microphone.
The 78-year-old Chappell, who came to prominence as a commentator alongside the likes of Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry and Tony Greig on the legendary Channel 9 team, finally made the decision to hang up the microphone.

Chappell, who has been commentating on ABC Grandstand and Macquarie Radio in recent summers, told the Sydney Morning Herald he had been thinking about retiring for some time.
“I had a minor stroke a few years back and I got off lucky. But it just makes everything harder,” Chappell said.
