PORTLAND, Ore. — There will be a tendency today to mourn the departure of one of the greatest players in Portland Trail Blazers history, to reflect on all of Damian Lillard’s great moments in Portland — the heroic shots, the inspiring speeches, the gaudy records — and suddenly feel a void.
I ask you to consider a different reaction to Lillard being dealt to Milwaukee: celebration.
Celebrate that for 11 years we witnessed Lillard’s excellence, both as a player and a person. Celebrate that this drawn-out divorce ended well for both parties — the Blazers getting an impressive haul, including 2018 No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton, and Lillard going to a team that has a chance to win a title.
