The Australian Open trophy ceremony quickly turned ugly on Sunday night as the Rod Laver Arena crowd jeered at mention of COVID-19 vaccines and the Victorian government.
As Tennis Australia president Jayne Hrdlicka thanked the “extraordinary sacrifice” for everyone over the past year, she mentioned that, “with vaccinations on the way, rolling out in many countries around the world, it’s now a time for optimism and hope for the future.”
The mention of vaccinations brought audible boos that echoed throughout the stadium and around the world.
