Brisbane Roar postpone clash against Western United as Moreton Daily Stadium declared damaged

Their A-League fixture might be still another two days away, but the Brisbane Roar have been forced to postpone Saturday’s match against Western United because of an unfit pitch.

Roar CEO David Pourre was left red-faced at the Thursday afternoon announcement, with the Moreton Daily Stadium pitch significantly impacted following the extreme weather hitting the eastern seaboard.

“It’s disappointing to have to make this decision, but it’s a decision made in the best interests of the players, members and fans,” Pourre said in a statement.

“We know from experience that Moreton Daily Stadium is traditionally home to one of the best playing surfaces in Australia.

“Unfortunately, the pitch has been damaged by the recent extreme weather events and will not meet the high expectations around player safety despite the best efforts of all parties.
