Rugby great Toutai Kefu fought back in tears in an emotional interview outside his home, speaking for the first time about the alleged violent home invasion that saw Kefu stabbed and three other family members wounded.
“I’m taking it day-by-day,” the 60-cap Wallabies legend said. “At times, there are outbursts of crying.”
Kefu was one of four family members taken to hospital with wounds following the early Monday morning burglary gone wrong, when four teens allegedly broke into the home armed with a knife, machete, and axe.
“It was quite a lot of blood and they had actually nicked [my] liver,” he said on Friday.
But in a stunning show of grace, Kefu said he feels sorry for the youths who allegedly attacked the family.
“When I actually came downstairs, I could see how young they were. I was shocked,” he said.
