Queen Elizabeth coffin arrives in Edinburgh; public holiday set for 22nd September; Anthony Albanese criticises republic debate; King Charles proclaimed head of state; federal parliament suspended

King Charles III has been officially proclaimed head of state by Victorian governor Linda Dessau, who read a new oath under the state’s constitution earlier this morning.

As readers might recall, the monarch was officially proclaimed in New South Wales as well as nationwide yesterday.

Dessau, Premier Daniel Andrews, Victoria’s President of the Legislative Council and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly signed the proclamation at a ceremony at Government House.

The three-part ceremony, which commenced with a welcome to country, also required the Lieutenant Governor and administrator to make new oaths and affirmations.

Dessau reflected on Queen Elizabeth II’s life of service, including her several visits to Victoria between 1954 and 2011.
