- Burgess will take over as head coach of Warrington Wolves next season
Sam Burgess is set to land a huge payout after parting ways with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, despite having already agreed to take a coaching role in the Super League.
The Bunnies confirmed Burgess and fellow assistant coach John Morris both left the club on Wednesday morning, following a day of hectic meetings involving the club powerbrokers.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the former dual-code England international will receive a $700,000 payout from the Bunnies.
Burgess wrote himself into Rabbitohs folklore by playing the drought-breaking 2014 grand final win despite suffering a broken cheekbone in his first hit-up of the match
He retired from the NRL on medical grounds in 2019 but had four years remaining on his contract, which ran until the end of 2023.
