Cameron Smith became the second three-tme LIV winner in the breakaway tour’s short history and piloted his all-Australian Ripper GC to the team title in a monster day in New Jersey.
Both victories, which came with a windfall in excess of $7m for Smith, were locked in a long way from home despite an early final round stumble from Smith, the team captain, with a seven-shot individual win and a massive 11-shot team victory.
It was the first time Ripper GC’s four members – Smith, Marc Leishman, Matt Jones and Jediah Morgan – got to stand on the podium together having been eighth out of 12 teams on the rankings before the event with a best finish of second in 2023.
