Former A-League prodigy Kusini Yengi’s bright start life with English club Portsmouth has been soured by an ankle injury that is set to sideline him for up to eight weeks.
Yengi, who joined the English League One outfit from Western Sydney Wanderers in July, scored four goals in his first three appearances in all competitions for his new club.
However, a training mishap in which a teammate fell on him during a tackle is likely to keep the 24-year-old striker on the injured list until the middle of October.
In some good news for Yengi, his ankle was not fractured – as was first feared – in the tackle, easing initial concerns that he could be sidelined for up to four months.
“We initially thought there was a fracture, so we protected him with a boot and he limped off for an X-ray and an MRI scan,” Portsmouth manager John Mousinho told The News.
