AFL 2023: Swans lose important pair as finals hopes darken

Sydney’s late-season charge for a finals spot will be heavily challenged after two other key players joined retired legend Lance Franklin in picking up calf injuries against the Bombers.

Co-captain Dane Rampe and wingman Justin McInerney will both miss games ahead of a difficult run home beginning with the Sydney derby at Giants Stadium on Saturday night.

Rampe may only miss one match after the Swans confirmed he had a low-grade strain, but McInerney could be sidelined until the end of the home and away season after sustaining an injury late in the thrilling win over Essendon.

Sydney head physio Damian Raper said the duo were the only players facing concerns, with Lewis Melican cleared to return to full training following a hamstring strain in round 18.
