Jack Ginnivan free kicks, high tackles, holding the ball, ducking, shrugging, Collingwood vs North Melbourne

The AFL has ticked off the umpires’ handling of controversial Collingwood star Jack Ginnivan during Saturday’s game against North Melbourne, reports The Age.

Ginnivan – who has received 17 free kicks for high contact this season, four more than anyone else in the AFL – was once again at the centre of the action in the win at the MCG.

He was twice awarded free kicks for being caught high by Kangaroos players, but was a third time unlucky, instead being called for holding the ball.

The tackle saw him grabbed around the neck but he was not credited because the umpire felt he had swung his arm up to force the tackle high.

That movement to try and draw a free kick was considered his prior opportunity which saw him pinged for holding.
