Australia has a new queen of sport, and she’s West Australian.
East Fremantle-born soccer phenomenon Sam Kerr has rocketed into the top 10 most marketable athletes on the planet, pipping seven-time NFL Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and replacing tennis ace Ash Barty as the most popular Aussie.
Kerr is also more marketable than Simone Biles, Neymar, Kylian Mpabbe and Rafael Nadal just to name a few.
The 29-year-old, who was ranked ninth on the list complied by Sportspro, has made a remarkable rise from Perth Glory sharpshooter to the premier striker in Women’s soccer, ripping apart some of the best teams in the world as Australian captain and netting nearly a goal a game for her Women’s Super League club Chelsea.
Kerr burst onto the international scene at 15, and the world quickly fell in love with her ruthless goal-scoring, exuberant celebrations and happy-go-lucky Aussie attitude.
