Weeks after European football was almost torn apart by money-hungry breakaway plans, professional golf is waging war against an existential threat of its own.
Saudi-backed proposals for a rival Premier Golf League have been renewed with some of the world’s top players subject to lucrative offers to turn their backs on golf’s most significant institutions, the PGA and European Tours.
The UK Telegraph reported this week that 11 players, including top-ranked Dustin Johnson, former world No.1s Brooks Koepka and Justin Rose, and Bryson DeChambeau, have all been offered huge deals to quit pro golf as we know it in favour of a closed circuit.
Foxsports.com.au understands that Australia’s Adam Scott has also been offered a contract.
