Geelong’s horror first week finals record has worsened, with Chris Scott’s side 1-8 in their opening final since the 2011 premiership.
The Cats registered their lowest score of the season so far in the 43-point loss to Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval, which is the fourth time in five seasons their season-low has come in the first week.
It’s an alarming record on its own, but it combines with Scott’s 6-13 record in finals since the 2011 flag to make for grim reading.
Worse still, former Brownlow medallist Gerard Healy said the manner in which Geelong had its latest finals stumble had him fearing the cliff was approaching for the veteran side.
“They’ve had a poor track record in the first finals but this one looks a lot different to some of the others,” Healy said on Fox Footy’s First Crack.
