David Teague has “a small but fighting chance” of remaining as Carlton coach into 2022, with their board split on Ross Lyon and Alastair Clarkson yet to make a decision on his future.
Teague’s firing has felt like a fait accompli for several weeks, with the Blues boss even speaking about his job in the past tense during his press conference after the club’s last-round loss to GWS, complaining of a lack of support during a very public review of the football department.
Yet after a board meeting on Sunday, in which they discussed the review findings, it was decided more time was required to make a decision on their coach’s future. Teague may now be given a chance to speak to the board and, in effect, plead his case for staying.
