FRANKLY, it is mystifying why it took so long for Malcolm Blight to be afforded the game’s highest honour. PICTURES
The free-spirited boy from Woodville last night became a Legend of the AFL.
Blight played 341 games for Woodville and North Melbourne. He kicked 803 goals. He played 14 state games for the Vics and South Australia. He coached North Melbourne (playing coach), Geelong, Woodville, Adelaide and St Kilda.
He won the Brownlow Medal (1978), the Magarey Medal (1972), the Coleman Medal (1982), the Ken Farmer Medal in South Australia for leading goalkicker (1985). He is a two-time premiership player, an All-Australian twice (once at fullback). And he was captain of Victoria and South Australia.
